Mission

At French Quarter Journal, we report on New Orleans' oldest neighborhood as a community - not a commodity.

Our writers and photographers dive deep to document the continuing evolution of the Quarter and its surrounding neighborhoods as world-class incubators for free-thinkers, individualists and artists.

For while the French Quarter’s population may have dwindled drastically in recent decades and community-rending pressures mount, it remains sacred ground for those who live to create.

And for those who love creators.

And for those who make pilgrimages from afar, seeking to ignite a dormant spirit within themselves.

Our team consists of seasoned writers and photographers, emerging talent and occasional guest correspondents. Each week, they pull aside the Quarter's velvet curtain and reveal its quirky backstage workings.

You'll meet some of the engaging characters who live and work in this enigmatic place. We'll introduce you to the artists, the residents and the street sweepers. Get acquainted with musicians and bar-backs, shopkeepers and chefs. Explore the nooks and crannies of the Quarter's venerable buildings with us.

And raise a toast to one of the most interesting neighborhoods on Planet Earth.
